Get Ready for Your AC Replacement Appointment

a-very-old-air-conditioner-that-needs-to-be-replaced

Congratulations! You’ll be so happy with your new air conditioner. After all, that old one really just wasn’t cutting it anymore, was it? And since today’s air conditioners are so effective and efficient, the new one will be better than the old one ever was, even in its prime.

Before you can enjoy that fantastic new AC system, however, you need to have it installed. What’s that going to be like? Have you been through it before? If so, chances are, it was quite a while ago. With proper maintenance, that old air conditioner might have been running for ten or twelve years. We can tell you exactly what to expect from your AC replacement appointment and how to make it go quickly and easily.

Clear Your Schedule

If there are additional processes that have to take place before your AC installation, such as having badly-damaged ductwork replaced, your contractor will be clear about that with you when you plan your AC replacement. In most cases, though, replacing an old AC system with a new one is a straightforward swap that can all happen on a single day.

Do clear your schedule for the whole day, as the installation might take eight hours or so. However, if everything goes perfectly, it could be done in half that time! How can you improve your odds of an easy, speedy AC replacement? By following this checklist.

  • Plan the Approach: Where should the work truck be parked? Which door will be easiest to bring large pieces of equipment through? If anything is in the way—birdbaths, bicycles—move it to clear a wide, easy path. This means from the parking spot to the door, from the parking spot to the location of the outdoor AC unit, and from the door to the location of the indoor AC unit.
  • Clear the Work Areas: Around the indoor unit, make sure there’s plenty of elbow room and nothing delicate or precious precariously balanced close by. Around the outdoor unit, trim back any tree branches, bushes, or plants that have grown close. Rake to remove dead leaves, yard waste, or other litter and mess. This will help your installers and improve airflow to the new unit.
  • Protect Your Pets: Doors will be opening more than usual as equipment is brought through. Many feet will be hurrying around. Installers may not be able to see clearly where they’re putting their feet if they’re handling a large appliance. It’s safer for your pets (and quicker and easier for your installation techs) if your pets are kept away from the whole process in a separate room.

What Happens During AC Replacement

Your installers will check to see what they need to do to prepare the area. If you’ve already done that to the best of your ability, this part will go quickly. They’ll disconnect the old units and cart them away. They’ll position and connect the new units and get the system turned on. It will be allowed to run for a bit, to ensure that all is well. And your AC replacement in Chicago, IL is done, as easy as that!
